History
Belleview Middle School (BMS) is a public middle school located in Ocala, FL that has been serving the community for over 50 years. The school originally opened its doors in 1965 as Belleview Junior High School, with just five classrooms and an enrollment of around 200 students. Over the years, the school has grown to accommodate nearly one thousand students and includes multiple buildings, a library and media center, gymnasiums, cafeteria and other amenities.
In 1985 BMS was reorganized into a middle school system when Florida switched from junior high schools to middle schools. During this time renovations were made to several of the buildings on campus while new programs such as band, chorus, physical education and art were added.
In the early 2000s BMS underwent more renovations with a new media center being built in 2002 and a new gymnasium, outdoor classroom, and science lab added in 2007. In addition, a school-wide computer network was installed and updated yearly to keep up with advancing technology.
Belleview Middle School is also known for its highly successful sports teams including soccer, basketball, volleyball and track & field.
